Ingredients

Scale
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • 1 ½ tablespoons instant yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 large eggs (room temperature)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • For Egg Wash: 1 large egg and 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water with instant yeast and let it froth for about 5-10 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl or stand mixer, mix flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the frothy yeast mixture and eggs into the dry ingredients; mix until incorporated.
  4. Knead the dough using a stand mixer with a dough hook for about 5-7 minutes or by hand until smooth.
  5. Gradually incorporate softened butter while kneading until fully combined; the dough should be slightly sticky.
  6. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size (1-2 hours).
  7. Punch down the dough, divide it into equal pieces (about 18), and shape each into round buns.
  8. Place on parchment-lined baking sheets, cover loosely, and let rise again until puffy (30-45 minutes).
  9. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  10. Whisk together egg wash ingredients; brush over the buns before baking.
  11. Bake for approximately 15 minutes or until golden brown.
