Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round 9-inch cake pans with butter or non-stick spray and line them with parchment paper for easy removal.
In a large bowl: Whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Mix in buttermilk, oil, green food coloring, vanilla extract, and vinegar until combined. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients until just mixed.
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for about 28 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
In a mixing bowl: Beat together butter and cream cheese until smooth. Add vanilla extract and salt; mix well. Gradually add powdered sugar while mixing on low speed. Add heavy whipping cream and beat until fluffy.
Once cakes are completely cool: Place one layer on a cake board or serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top of the first layer. Place the second layer on top and frost the entire outside of the cake smoothly.
Using colored gel food icing: Pipe details using various piping tips to create facial features reminiscent of Frankenstein's monster.
